Every August, car aficionados, auto industry professionals, and auction houses flock to the Monterey Peninsula for one of the most highly anticipated events of the year.  That would be Monterey Car Week, a series of action-packed car shows and major auction events in Monterey, Carmel Valley, Pebble Beach, and the surrounding region.  Apart from being car enthusiasts ourselves, we love the events for the pure enthusiasm of the crowd that attends, as well as the breathtaking surroundings - think ocean views, seaside towns, golf links, and wine country. 

If you're thinking about going, here are our tips:

Serious car lovers should stay on-site at Pebble Beach (The Lodge, The Inn at Spanish Bay, Casa Palmero), buy advance tickets to The Quail, Concorso Italiano + Concours d'Elegance, and attend auctions held by Gooding, Bonham's, and RM Sotheby's. Those looking for a less serious commitment should enjoy the weekend in Carmel-by-the-Sea at L'Auberge Carmel, and attend the final day of the Concours (where nominees are on display and best-in-class awards are given). Note: events + hotels book up fast, so if you're interested in making the trip next year, let Ahl Collective do the work!
